Issue with Capturing IP address.

3 New Member
Hello All,

I wanted to capture IP addresses of the computer accessing my website. I googled for the same and found some answers.

I tried ,

Request.UserHostAddress

and

Request.ServerVariables("remote_addr") .

I'm very much able to capture the IPs', however, it is limited to the intranet IPs' and not able to capture the external IP.

I know that there would be IP spoofind and all, but that's okay as we restrict our users to corporate sector and not the domestic users.

Any suggestions would be highly apprecitated.

Thanks in advance.

I've never had any issues with using Request.UserHostAddress.

If the computer connecting to your website is on your same network, its not going to USE an external IP, so you would never see it.

As far as user tracking goes, the best you can do is to track the remote IP (the user host address, as you have been doing ), the remote xfip (transferred for IP address), and the user agent. The HTTP spec doesn't provide you with any more information than that. (some may not even want to use user agent, as it could cause a single user using two different browsers would have two different signatures)...
