Type Conversion

1 New Member
What is the use of Converting one type to another?

For ex :

internal class B
{
// Base class
}
internal class D : B
{
// Derived class
}

B b2 = new D(); ------- What is the use?

For functions that require the base class as a parameter, you can still use your derrived class

Well, in that scenario, you aren't converting between types at all. You're just holding an object of type D in a Type B wrapper...you could "convert" back without losing any information.

The usefulness is that, since they have the same methods and properties, you can perform the same operations on them. So if you had a method that took an object of type B as a parameter, it could also take those of type D and anything else derived from it.

This concept is called polymorphism, and it is central to the object-oriented programming concept.
