Java Web Service and VB.NET Web Service Reference

I have a VB.NET Winforms application that I am writing in VB.NET 2008. When I
try to add a Web Reference to the service to my project by selecting Add
Service Reference and entering the https://servername/directoryname I get the
following error: There was an error downloading. The underlying connection
was closed: An unexpected error occured on a send. Received and unexpected
EOF or 0 bytes from the transport stream. The web service was created using
Java 1.5.0_12. It is using SSL to connect but to my knowledge the service
wants to use SSL and Visual Studio 2008 uses TLS to connect to the service. I
just need to know what to do the my project or the web server to add the Web
Service Reference to my project. Any help will be appreciated
