Repartitioning

I have an older version of XP, and when I try to format my new 320GB hard
drive, the OS only recognizes 137GB. It appears that the rest of the drive is
"lost space." How can I regain this lost space? With downloading SP1 or
higher, can I recover the part that is not recognized?

Thanks.
