html into xml tags

hello! do u know how can i put html into and xml tag
Example:

<element><br></element>

i receive error "the page is not well formatted" ...

Either:
* Use XHTML and namespace it
* Encode the special characters with entities
or
* Use CDATA markers around the HTML
