Vb.net edit userinfo with directory services

Im using a vb.net program to create username in AD by inporting data from a
csv.

I can create the users just fine without error but I'm having an issue with
one part.

We want the users to show as Lastname, firstname in AD users and computers.
but when I create the user and set
newuser.Properties("name").add(last & ", " & first)
or
newuser.Properties("name").Value = last & ", " & first

the "name" ends up matching the username we set for it. (firstname.lastname)

I set up a message box to read me the value before it commits changes and
its showing properly, but during the commit changes stage it appears to be
changing the property back to match the username.

Has anyone else had the problem or have any segesttions.
