Some questions about sending 1000+ emails (mailinglist)

A client I`m working for want to be able to send multiple emails to
customers of their own. I have developed a simple app to accomplish this,
but the application has a few flaws and I`m looking for some help/advice.

The current setup is like this:
- Read emails from db
- Send a mail to each address in a foreach

This generates a lot of trafic and load on the server.

I want to be able to build longer strings and send it to multiple users
using the BCC field. The problem with this approach is that the smtp-server
will generate an error if one of the specified emails are invalid. In a list
of 300 emails I don`t know wich is wrong.

Another problem is that some emails are invalid in some way, and are queued
on the server and just sits there spamming the recieving server with
retries.

Are there any (good articles) on this topic out there? All I have found are
to simple to help me with my problems....

Any help is appriciated.

thx. Thomas Mandelid.
