GUID and vdproj-files

Hi everybody,

I'm trying to do an automated release of a software, therefor I want
to change the ProductVersion automatically. This also changes the
Product Code and the Package Code.
I'd like to use a Perl Script to go into that .vdproj file to change
these values. But I'm not sure how I have to change the things, since
when I change it manually some other values are also changed. (I
compared the old and the new version after I changed the product
version).
There is a line in the file that contains:
"MergeModule"
2 lines later something changes. It looks like an other GUID. Is this
one? and where does it come from/what's its purpose?

My 2nd problem is the creation of the GUID. Is the visual studio
delivered with an tool (at best a command prompt tool) to create
GUIDs?

PS: the 2nd problem is solved: uuidgen.exe in the "Common7\tools"
directory
