Is the "ë" character valid iso-8859-1 character? If not, there is a
posibility that it gets skipped during the decoding at load time.

I' reading an xml file from an external location
the encoding: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" ?>
My problem is, when I read the data from the xml element with
element.firstchild.value, some special characters disapear.
sample: <tag>abcë</tag>
element.firstchild.value returns abc
the special char "ë" is gone.
That may has something to do with either how you are loading document or how
you are displaying element.firstchild.value value. Provide more info about
it
please.
