How to Perform Slipstreamed Installs of .NET 1.1 with Service Pack 1 in only 11 MB

Dear Group

If you want to perform a slipstreamed install of .NET Framework 1.1,
including Service Pack 1, here's how.

First, what do we mean by slipstreamed install? It means that version
1.1 of the framework will be installed, with the service pack 1 update
already applied, "slipstreamed". There will be no need to download
additional updates or install service packs as a secondary step.

Next, this mechanism works well on both computers with and without .NET
Framework 1.1 already installed. If the framework is installed, the
service pack 1 update will be applied. If the framework is not already
installed, then it will be, together with the service pack 1 update, in
a single pass.

Finally, some compression magic. The .NET Framework 1.1 package weighs
in rather heavily at 23 MB. The Service Pack 1 update is another 10 MB.
The total for both is 33 MB. How big is the slipstreamed installer?
Only 11 MB. That is literally 1/3rd the size of the individual
installs, achieved with slipstreaming and superior compression
technology.

The tool that does this is called InstallAware, and contains many other
interesting features such as partial web deployment, which lets you
deploy only the runtimes (or other optional features) of your
application online, while providing a self contained installer that
works without requiring an Internet connection. The development IDE is
also very easy to use and features two-way roundtripping when editing
your setup project visually or in code.

InstallAware Software Corporation is happy to offer all readers of this
group a 20% discount on your first order of InstallAware:

1) Visit www.installaware.com/buydirect.asp
2) Choose the edition that fits your needs
3) Enter discount code DOTNETMAGIC

If you are already a user of InstallShield, Wise, or ZeroG products,
don't forget to take an additional 33% off your purchase price - just
choose the "Crossgrade" license option, for a total discount of over
50%.

And you'll be on your way to creating bullet-proof installers, with
slipstreamed .NET 1.1 Service Pack 1 support built right in, at only an
11 MB overhead.

Feel free to visit our website at www.installaware.com for a 30 day
fully functional evaluation, or contact us at sales at installaware dot
com.

Sincerely,
