MSDN Newsgroups - .Net Forum Design

Hi, I have built forums before, but i want to build a new one using the same
design as the MSDN Newsgroups.

I was just wondering if anyone could explain how the left column works. Is
it based on a Pre-order Tree Traversal Algorithm? Is this used in conjunction
with a Tree control. It would be nice if someone could confirm my thoughts
before i spend hours TRYING to make it work.

Thanks.
