How can I retrieve the serial number of my Pocket PC in VB.net?

2 New Member
Hi All,

I have developed an application for my Pocket PC and would like to bind it to the device id. Any ideas how I can get the serial number using the vb.net compact framework?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply, I found the thread you mention a couple of days ago. Have you clicked on the link it refers to? It says : The GotDotNet site has been shut down.

Any other suggestions?

In order to protect software from being copied without licence, I would like to use something like a key, which fits only to the current system. The serial number of the CPU or the current operating system would be appropriate. However, I do not know how to retrieve the information. Could you help? Klaus

I'd tried to retrieve the ID or Serial Number of main-board and hard-disk via WMI using C#, but failed. One friend suggested me with some codes calling WIN32 API, but only effective on WIN2000 or later. How to retrieve those data on Win98/ME/2000/XP by using C#?

The application is quite simple: A calling thread is blocked untill Readfile returns with "bytesToRead" numbers of bytes or untill "TotalTimeout" specified in the "COMMTIMEOUT"...

I wrote a simple application in MFC that uses MSComm ActiveX Control for serial communication. This app works just fine but I have to port it to Pocket PC. So, I wrote another simple application in C# for Pocket PC now using a System.IO.Ports.SerialPort object with the same communication parameters as the former: 19200,n,8,1 and on COM4. ...
