I have created a simple service which just copies a fil to a new file
with a new name on certain intervals (the service implements a timer).
I have no problems installing the service and the log-entries I have
created on stop() and start() in the eventlog works fine as well.
However - the actual task is never executed. I catch the execution of
the tick and in the finally-block I write to the eventlog as well. But
only one entry is creates...

I wrote a windows service which is supposed to stop after specified amount
of time. I am calling OnStop() after specified time. OnStop() methods

Please advise how to stop the service.
Thanks,

I have created a windows service but am having difficulties handling
exceptions in the OnStart.
What I want to do is if an exeception occurs during any of the code executed
during the OnStart is to log the problem and stop the service.
I've already sorted out the logging of the problem to the event log but the
suggested solution I have implemented for stopping the service does not work.
Currently I declare a ServiceController and set...

Basically,
I want to check if a URL is playable or not (without actually playing
it).
i.e. given a URL I want to write an automation script to figure it out
for me
if it's playable or not. If you give a bad/invalid URL for windows
media
player to play a pop-up window shows us that it cannot be played. So
I would want to catch that event.

I am working at .net 1.1, writing in c#.
I have windows service with a COM object.
Every unexpected time The COM object throw an error that make my service get
stuck (do not respond).
I can catch this error.
I want to restart my windows service every time the COM object throws an
error.
I use System.ServiceProcess.ServiceController to stop and start my service.
But there is one thing I do not understand:

Hi...
Following the samples online, we implemented a windows service in .Net.
Like most services, there's a worker thread actually doing stuff in the
background. The problem we've run into is how to get the service to exit
when the worker thread has a fatal error *and* get the SCM to invoke the
auto-restart configuration?
The worker thread can error out while the parent thread in the server
process chugs along. We can set the exit...

I need to build PHP from source with the pdo_ibm extension and I am
having an issue with it. Firstly, I am using Visual Studio .NET 2003
and I am building PHP from source through the Visual Studio Command
Prompt. When I get to the nmake step, it gets through everything until
it hits the zend_language_scanner.l file. Then I get these errors:
zend_language_scanner.l(24) : warning C4005: 'yyleng' : macro

I created a windows service using VS2005.
I created/adjusted the install class using the designer controls.
I set the user to be 'local system'.
I installed the service using the VS2005 cmd console (installutil.exe).
The service shows up fine in my services snap-in.
I can start and stop it just fine and it works great when I start it.
I can open a command window and type: net start "My Service" and net stop
"My Service" and it works...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
