WCF service doesn't work with function returning typed DataSet

Hi,

I have a WCF service that works perfectly. I added a new function
(returning typed Dataset) and now, my service doesn't work anymore. I
got a lot of "CODEGEN" warning inside the proxy file (generated with
svcutil with /n and /r switch) like this one:

'CODEGEN: Parameter 'GetPostalFacil itiesByFsaIdRes ult' requires
additional schema information that cannot be captured using the
parameter mode. The specific attribute is
'System.Xml.Ser ialization.XmlA rrayAttribute'.

The typed dataset is defined inside a separate assembly.

Anybody has an idea whats wrong ?

For one thing, you should not pass a dataset into or out of a Web Service,
as this is a type specific to .NET, and will not be usable on other
platforms. In fact, I've heard of cases where a DataSet returned by one
version of .NET is not usable on a different version.

I've created a strongly typed DataSet (Customers.xsd) using the xsd.exe tool. I want to be able to access fields using ds.Customer.CompanyName. The problem is when I return this DataSet from a Web Service it adds another Table to the DataSet that contains the data. I have to access the data using ds.Tables.Rows.ToString(). This defeats the whole purpose of using a strongly typed DataSet. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have an ArrayList of objects of class C. I need to return the list via a web method. What's the best approach? If I convert the list into a DataSet I could return the DataSet, but how would I do that? Do I need to create a strongly typed DataSet from my class C? Thanks.

I need to create a C# web service that returns a recordset for an ASP classic applicaiton to consume. My problem is that so far the only thing that I have found I can return is a dataset using ADO.NET and of course ASP classic uses ADO and doesn't understand a dataset. Any suggestions??

I am trying to figure out the best way to return data through a web service. If the value is a single value I can just set it equal to the web service name. If I am returning a set of data I have seen a couple ways to do this. The dataset coming back to me is a SybaseASE Data Reader. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated. thanks, Anthony Right now I have done the following:

Hello, I created a Web Service using .Net 2.0 that has a function that returns a DataTable. I can test the function from the web page when I access the .asmx from a browser on localhost and it works. I can also test the function using VB6 and the xmlhttp activex object. The problem I have now is when using VS 2005 or VB.Net 2005 Express and creating a web references is that the proxy created doesn't map the function as returning a DataTable...

I'm a bit puzzled by the current recommendation not to send Datasets or Datatables between application tiers. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306134 http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms996381.aspx Formerly, with classic Microsoft DNA architecture, the ADO Recordset was a primary transport medium, recommended for transmitting data between application tiers. In fact, there are whole books written on the subject.

Folks, I need to send a non-strongly typed DataTable as a parameter through my web service to update the database with the user's changes, and need to return it to the user's client app with any changes the database/MT made. Most important: for new records, the client-side ID of "-1" should be replaced with the database's autoincremented identity value. This DataTable exists on the client side as the "parent" table in a DataSet, with...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
