C# - WFC Web Svc - Login failed after deployment to localhost

1 New Member
Hi All,

I have written a web service that works fine in development and fails when deployed to my localhost. The development solution is configured as:
Business Object Project
Service Project (interface & implementation)
Service Host Project (a console app)
Service Client Project (a winforms app)
When I deploy the service to my localhost and host it in IIS, I can browse to the service and it gives me the "service test page" that has instructions on how to use svcutil.exe to generate a client proxy. I can also query the WSDL from the service.

I created a winforms client using the svcutil.exe gen'd class and added a service reference to the local service. When I try to call the service, I get an exception "{"Login failed for user '<DOMAIN>\\MACH INENAME$'."}.

Apparently, the service is being called under the context of the Windows Machine Account. My OS is Vista Business with IIS 7. I have no clue as to how to tell IIS 7 to allow public (i.e. anonymous) access to the service.

Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

I am implementing a secure website using the ASP.NET FormsAuthentication model. I have taken the simplest code examples from MSDN (login.aspx,default.aspx, web.config) but cannot get proper behavior on my machine. As an unauthenticated user, I navigate to the website http://localhost/XXX. global.Authenticate_Request considers sending default.apsx but cannot find any authentication cookie in the Context object, so the request is...

I have a problem for a Windows Service to login on an SQL server (different machine) - neither Windows Authentication nor SQL Authentication worked. LOGIN FAILED FOR USER sa (for example). If SQL Server is on the same PC of the Windows Service the connection works OK. The same code works in a Windows Form using same user and authentication methods to the SQL Server on a different machine.

Hi, Any pointers much appreciated- I just don't know how to progress from here. Using MS SQL server on a shared host (www.joglab.com shows the problem) I am having a problem with logins- login appears to work and is registering in the members database (also on a shared server) as a login but not behaving on the pages ie LoginView/ Login Status not functioning (behaves as if no user is logged in).

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
