Custom Control Not Rendering Properly - VB - ASP.NET

polymorphic
28 New Member
I have a custom control that I did not create. It is made up of many classes and is rendered dynamically. Perhaps none of that really matters.

The control renders properly on the first load when the Page_Init, Page_Load, etc. methods are called. However, when these events are not called then the control does not render properly.

How can I debug this?

The ASPX page itself has:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. <%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" Codebehind="default.aspx.vb" Inherits="ops_default" enableViewState="True" %>
but there is so much inheritance that it gets confusing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
cj

Hi Polymorphic, this is a .NET question and should be posted in the .NET forum. You will recieve much better technical help with .NET questions over there.

Good luck with the problem,

I'm using VS 2003 my project uses COM interop and the Tao Framework. I have a custom control derived from UserControl. It implements many functions similar to the Tao's SimpleOpenGLControl, for example I also have a MakeCurrent() method. Inside of the overriden method for CreateParams() I also set the CS_OWNDC bit so that my control has a private DC. During instantiation of my control I make a call to User32.dll to GetDC(IntPtr...

I've built a composite web custom control with a lot of child controls. I assigned ToolTip values to some of these controls. The ToolTip pop-ups were working fine until I monkeyed with the order I am rendering the controls. I had to do this so that the control rendered properly when a developer drags it from the toolbox onto the page. Any ideas? Below is the meat of the code from my user control. The remainder is private methods.

I have a custom control that builds what we refer to as "Formlets" around some content in a page. These are basically content "wrapper" sections that are tables that have a colored header and provide an open TD with a DIV in it for the content of this formlet. (The DIV is for DHTML to hide and show the content) I've created a web page showing step by step the two problems I'm encountering. This problem is much easier to see than it...

Hi all. I have written a custom DataGrid control which inherits from ASP.Net DataGrid control. When I drop this control on an ASP.Net form, it does not display the grid properly. It says error rendering control. Do I need to do anything in my control so that it gets displayed just like the standard DataGrid at design time. This is my first custom ASP.Net control. So please help. Thanks... -Nikhil

When using a custom control. In order to check and see if values have changed one has to implement the IPostBackDataCollection interface. The values returned for the control seem to be simply a string with comma delimited values. For example, if I were to render two text boxes. One with the Value Terry and the Other with the Value 'Burns' I would get the following value Terry,Burns.

I have a Windows service that requests web pages from a site using an HttpWebRequest object. When I try to request a page from an ASP.NET 2 site, I get a WebException with message "The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error." I found a post that suggested to catch the WebException to retrieve the actual HttpWebResponse object for more information. The response returned is shown below. At first I thought this was a...

I created a custom server control whose rendering logic relies on session variables and cookies. It works just fine at run time. The problem is at the design time, because session variables and cookies are not available, so that I get error messages. I just wonder if there are any way such as conditional compile options to overcome the problem? Thanks Charles Zhang

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
