VB.Net Interaction/interoperabilit y between apps

1 New Member
I know this must be simple, but it's baffling me and time is marching on...

I have an app (written in VB 2005) with a public method ('refreshData') which I need to be able to run from another app. So if the 1st app is called 'Scriptable', then the syntax in the 2nd app is something like this:

Dim x As New Scriptable.app
x.Visible = True
x.refreshData()

But of course when I run this, it creates a new instance of Scriptable. What I want is to be able to address the instance that is already running.

Can anyone help save my sanity here??

Check out the Microsoft support groups post this weekend. The weekend of "patches". They seem to have broken COM/.net interop on W2K. ..Net apps calling any COM component are met with nasty, unresolvable "security" errors that can't be fixed with dcomcfg or the .Net configuration manager.

Today I got the latest propaganda email from MSFT talking about XML and interoperability. It's been bothering me all day and while the notion of interoperability is good -- the ability to interact with disparate heterogeneous platforms and protocols -- what really bugs me is the choice of words. Interoperability has 8 syllables, only 6...

I posted for help on legacy code interface 2 days ago. Probably I didn't make it clear in my original mail. The second reply mentioned about .NET interoperability...

Here is my question: It is common to have many pieces of business logic encapsulated within asp.net user controls. This can be found in high visibility projects such as the iBuySpy portal from MS. Virtually every bit of the site is encapsulated within user controls. The problem begins when you try to have user controls pass information...

Hi, is there any way to print/log a backtrace or crash report on segfault without the need of user interaction? I know I could run my program via gdb and use "bt" to see what happened on crash but the program I want to debug is a server which *must* be restarted immediately after it crashed. I didn't find an auto-restart like feature in...
