Mutex not working under restricted User.

1 New Member
Hi All,

I have developed two application. One is windows service and another is windows application using c# .net.
I used Mutex for synchronization purpose.
Now, my problem is application is working fine under Admin account but,
I have a problem of accessing mutex under non-admin(Power User or restricted user) account.

I got the following error:

Constructor: Access to the path 'Config' is denied.
at System.IO.__Err or.WinIOError(I nt32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)
at System.Threadin g.Mutex.OpenExi sting(String name, MutexRights rights)

I have a named mutex object that is accessed by both an asp.net application and a Windows executable .net application. The Windows executable runs under the administrator logon, while the asp.net application runs under the standard asp.net user account. The problem relates to permissions on creation of the mutex. If the asp.net application creates the mutex, the executable cannot access it (access denied error). Likewise, if the...

Hello, I have an application that essentially consists of two threads doing their things. One thread is a producer, and pushes bytes (of a struct) into a pipe, and another is a consumer that simply checks the pipe at regular intervals reads out the bytes. If the consumer extracts bytes and sees that it's not enough to recast to the struct, it caches it and waits for more bytes in the pipe. My question is: Do I still need to maintain...

Hi. I want to use the same mutex in different classes (web pages in an ASP.NET application). In global.asax.cs, the class that starts up first, I create a Mutex like this: static private Mutex mtxBezoeken = new Mutex(false, "bezoeken"); which compiles and executes just fine. Then in another page I want to write to a file that may also be accessed by global.asax.cs so I want access to

I want a (global) mutex which prevents a section of my code from being run by more than one process (or user) at a time. I have something that works, EXCEPT when there is an exception of some kind. It is possible for the user to generate an error and be able to "fix" the thing that caused the error (perhaps by changing some parameter) and then want to run the operation again from the same process. But if there's been an error, then he's out...

I've been having strange thread conflicts, and after moving the relevant mutex higher and higher I've finally determined that the mutex doesn't seem to be working at all. Here is the relevant code: private static Mutex previewMutex = new Mutex(); private static void preview (string source, string target) {

I am working in managed C++. I have a Mutex object in which I need to replace the Handle property with a new handle. The new handle is being constructed using Win32 CreateMutex call. I need to call the Win32 version in order to set the security descriptor for the mutex, which is not natively supported in .NET Framework 1.1. I always get a little nervous about resource leaks when trying to bridge Win32 with .NET, so I want to make sure...

I need to be certain my application only runs once on a machine, and I implemented a solution using Mutex. The solution was posted many times, but one great link I found is http://www.yoda.arachsys.com/csharp/faq/#one.application.instance The problem is, when I switch users (XP Professional) the second user can open a second instance of the application! How can I prevent this? Here's the relevant part of my code:

Hello, i'm trying to program a thread that would be locked (by a mutex) and that would only be unlocked once that a function (generating data) is done. The purpose is to generate data, and unlock the mutex in order to activate the thread once the data is generated. I have to do it this way, i can only call the thread if the data are generated. ******************************************************** step 1: initialize the mutex

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
