My question is about the use and meaning of the terms "declaration" and
"definition" as it pertains to the C language.
I've read sources that mix the two up when talking about such things as
setting aside storage for an object, defining/declaring a struct, parts
of a function, referencing an external variable in another module.
sourcefile1.c
==============
extern long globalfoo; /* declaration? */

While I'd toyed with C, C++, and Java over the last 20 years or so, my
principal language has been BASIC, QBASIC, then Visual Basic, and
finally Visual Basic .NET. But lately, I've been using C# and I
absolutely *love* it. It makes me think more about what I'm doing it
before I just spew code into the editor. I'm writing better code than
ever.
The only thing so far that I don't like about it is the switch
construct. I can't do this:

Guys,
Need some of your opinion on an oft beaten track
We have an option of using "goto" in C language, but most testbooks
(even K&R) advice against use of it.
My personal experience was that goto sometimes makes program some more
cleaner and easy to understand and also quite useful (in error handling
cases).
So why goto is outlawed from civilized c programmers community.
is there any technical inefficiency in that.

I was thinking of switching to VS2005, so I sent off for and received a 120
evaluation kit. This version was supposed to be the same as the full
version, but the key limits you to 120 days. I installed it and began
learning how to use it.
I built several small C# test apps that use common classes in a dll that I
also wrote. When I right click on a class that was defined in the dll and
select "go to definition" it would open the source...

Before I start, please let's not discuss whether goto is evil or not.
For generated code, this can make perfect sense.
It would be interesting to know a trick how to get C to do a goto to
an address that has been assigned to a variable, i.e.
MyLabel:
....
address_x = MyLabel;
....

Java Programming which act the same as function "goto(x,y) " in C Programming!!!

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
