I just realized that the code I inherited is using all asp.net server
controls (ie. webform controls) and when I try to update textboxes on the
client side, I lose the new value of the textbox when submitting the form to
update the database. The server doesn't have the client side value any more.
It seems to me that as I begin to write the client side javacript code for
form validation and client side editing capabilities in order to save...

In limiting textbox input to 500 characters I would like to include a
dynamic count of characters input while the user is typing into a textbox.
This would obviously be a client side control, possibly a custom validator
with a function written in javascript.
Has anyone done this? Does someone have an example?

Hi,
I have a webform with various asp controls on it such as textboxes and
dropdownlists. I'm fairly new to asp.net coming from VB6 and am
wondering when it's best to use client side events and when it's best
to use server side events.
For example, if a textbox is to contain a date I want to validate the
date when that textbox loses the focus. If the date is not valid I
make visible a label next to the textbox telling the user it's

Hello.
If I use an asp.net custom validator control to validate a textbox,
what I find is that if I enter in some text that I have already
entered and validated in a previous session (you know when you start
typing inside a textbox, you see things that have already been typed
before), then when I click off the textbox, the custom validator
client side jscript does not run. I really need the custom jscript
validator code to run...

Hi guys,
I am converting a rather complicated database driven Web application from
classic ASP to ASP.NET 2.0 using VB 2005 as the programming language. The
original ASP application works quite well, so at times it is tempting just
to port parts of it over mostly as-is. In fact, one MSDN article I read
suggested using straight HTML wherever possible to make the app more
efficient and less resource demanding.
On one page there are 2...

Hi all...
I am trying to do a simple thing and maybe am missing something elementary.
I have created a Javascript function at the top of a page which is meant to
enable editing of an HTML input textbox when the user makes a selection from
the DropDownList control. Since there is no OnClick event I have tried using
OnSelectedIndexChanged or OnTextChanged such as OnTextChanged ="ckCat()"
with ckCat being the javascript function name. I...

Hi all,
I am developing an asp.net 2.0 application in Visual Studio 2005. On
my page I have a simple datalist that is bound programmatically to a
collection of simple objects. On this page I need to control the
visibility of a textbox based on a dropdown selection in the
datalist's edititem template. To do this, I registered a client script
block function and attached a client side handler for the
dropdownlist's onchange event in the...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
