Thread locking up?

I have a webservice that I am calling from an application running on a
Windows Mobile device, and I am coming across a problem where the thread
freezes whilst calling the webservice.

The application makes calls to, and receives responses back from, the
webservice quite happily, but one call will just suddenly freeze, and lock
the thread. Other calls/threads continue to work ok, but this thread just
sits waiting for a response. It appears that the application makes the call
to the web service ok, and waits for a response, but IIS does not seem to get
the request, and no errors seem to be raised, either in the application or in
IIS.

Does anyone have any ideas of why/how this happens and how to
fix/workaround/avoid it?

Hi John,

Does this issue occur if you access the webservice from your desktop? If it
does, I would suggest to use Fiddler (http://www.fiddlertool.com/) to
monitor the web traffic between the client and the server to see if the
request has been sent out or not.

If it only occurs on your mobile device, and the IIS log doesn't show a
request from it has been logged, I'm afraid there's something wrong with
the mobile device, such as its network setting or other processes?

These questions apply to std vector, map, and cout: I am uncertain of the thread safety for reading/writing for std templates. I know if all threads are reading concurrently, it is thread safe. However, I have this situation: Case 1: map thread 1 ---------

Thread Locking In Static Methods I have the need for a Log Manger class that has static methods. Normally I would use the lock statement or a Monitor statement both of which take a reference to (this). In the case of these static methods I am not able to do that.

Hello, i'm trying to program a thread that would be locked (by a mutex) and that would only be unlocked once that a function (generating data) is done. Hi We have some code that runs in a EventReceiver ItemAdded handler. The code must be thread-safe since it is iterating a List to find the max number of a column and assigns it + 1 to the Item that was added. If it was not thread-safe, two items could get the same number (which must be unique). So how do we garantee this in the event...

Hi, I've recently been working on an application which does quite a bit of searching through large data structures and string matching, and I was thinking that it would help to put some of this CPU-intensive work in another thread, but of course this won't work because of Python's GIL. There's a lot of past discussion on this, and I want...

I am trying to get multiple threads to lock specific regions of a file. However, since each thread has the same PID, it appears that a lock by one thread does not block another thread from the same process. How does one maintain file locking between sibling threads? - Matt

Hello, Is there any keyword applicable to a class to make it thread-safe? Without having to put lock(this){} in all functions? Thanks.

In an event routine, I want to end a certain thread. I am setting a flag that is checked by the thread and causes it to end, when it is set. Then the thread sets a "response" flag, just before exiting. In the event routine, I would like to wait for that response flag, because at that point, I can be sure that the old thread (even if it still...
