Can I install Visual Studio 2005 Express Editions on XP Home

1 New Member
Hi,

I plan to learn asp.net. But my OS is XP Home Edition. Can I install Visual C# 2005 Express Edition on my computer? For learning asp.net, is Visual C# 2005 a correct tool for me? Or should I choose Visual Web Developer 2005? What is the difference between the two tools?

Thank you very much.

If you only plan on doing web-applications, I think the Visual web developer is your best bet.
The reason I say this is that I know that visual webdeveloper can function without IIS (It has its own slim webserver implementation) . I am also under the belief that XP Home does not have IIS (I could be wrong though).

VS2005 Express might be able to work as well, but I could not be certain.

As for the language, I recomend C# as I feel it's a cleaner more structured language. But then, I am biased and dislike VB very much.

Hi,
Yes you are right Plater, XP Home does not come with IIS Support, But the express version will use its really slim IIS version to run the web apps.

Visual web Express is what you would need for ASP .Net

- I Have been using it since a year on my system until it crashed and only linux works :(. Though i am now figuring out how to use SharpDevelop on Linux.

Cheers

Hi everyone. I've been trying to move some small applications written in vb.net 2003 to vb.net 2005 express just for testing purposes. I have noticed so far that the applications seem to run much slower in the 2005 version. Especially when it comes to nested loops. I haven't done much testing so it might just be this one computer but I was curious to know if anyone else has experienced these kind of problems when moving to the 2005...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
