I'm trying to create a directory on the web server with a
vb.net code:

Dim dirName As String = "w:\filepath\images"
If Not Directory.Exists(dirName) Then
Directory.CreateDirectory(dirName)
Label1.Text = "Directory created"

I'm using File.Exists to test a file on my C: drive.
My program was strongly named and had caspol -af run on it to allow it to
run from the network.
There are 3 ways I am doing this:
1) Run from my C: drive, File.Exists works properly and says
C:\Temp\test.txt exists
2) Run from my H:\ (network) drive, File.Exists says the file doesn't exist.
3) Run from Visual Studio debugger, with project configuration property

Getting the following error on my production server whether the file exists
or not:
"System.IO.IOException: Cannot create a file when that file already exists."
Here's the code generating the error (seems to be happening when I try
creating a directory)
If dirmgr.Exists("s:\blah\" & txt_name.Text) Then
lblerror.Text = lblerror.Text & "Unable to build physical path. " &

Is there a way, with the System.IO class, to do a recursive list of a
directory structure?
For instance, in DirectoryInfo, you have GetDirectories and GetFiles ....
In Directory, you have Directory.GetFileSystemEntries(path), but I would
like to know how to put this together, knowing which entry is a Subdirectory
and which entry is a file, and make a recursive list of the Directory
structure below a specific path - - -

Evening,
Wondering if someone can point me in the right direction, on how I would
compare a system.guid with a system.byte.
system.guid (pulled from sql server table with a data type of
uniqueidentifier, originally taken from objectGUID from active directory
domain)

I have a Windows Form application that monitors a directory using the
System.IO.FileSystemWatcher.
On the event created I run a sub that sends an xml file over http to a
service.
When I copy 7000 files in the directory to be monitored only 123 are sent to
the service.
What might be going wrong?

I am very new to vb.net and am using Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition.
This is my function that essentially looks at a directory to see if it
is valid:
'Local variables
Dim sDirectory As System.IO.Directory
'See if path is valid
If sDirectory.Exists(Me.txtFilePath.Text) Then

Hello,
From my understanding, DirectoryEntry is used to connect to Active
Directory. Although this makes no sense whatsoever I accept it. The
problem is how am I supposed to test whether a connection is active or
not if I can create a DirectoryEntry with whatever data I want since the
data really isn't verified until I try to use it? I am not able to
determine whether the connection is really going to be available until
the Try {}...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
