Formatting string with space function

5 New Member
Hi,

I'm using VB 2005 and I have a problem formatting a string when I use the print preview dialog box. I'm using just the vbCrLf character and the Space function to correctly align my data and when I write this data to a textfile, it's formatted the way I want it to be. But when I display it with the print preview dialog, the format is wrong.

I was able to trace the problem to either the Space function or the font. When writing to a file, no font was specified but in the print preview, I used Times New Roman. Also, the space function seems to be returning a white space that is shorter than one character....I' m not really sure about the last part.

Can someone help me out with this?

In most fonts, different characters have different widths.
For example in this reply box:
aaaa
----
Each line contains 4 characters (4 'a's and 4 '-'s) but they are different lengths.
If you use a terminal-type font, all the characters are the same width, but they look funny.

I'm not sure what you can do to solve your problem, but it's probably the difference in whatever default font is used when you view it (like notepad is times new roman I think)

Thanks for your help!

You're right. I think that's what's going on. Is there a different way to align strings to get the same result or do you think I should consider changing the font to something that is like the terminal-type font?

I was messing about with formatting and realized that the right kind of object could quite easily tell me exactly what accesses are made to the mapping in a string % mapping operation. This is a fairly well-known technique, modified to tell me what keys would need to be present in any mapping used with the format. class Everything: def __init__(self, format="%s", discover=False): self.names = {} self.values =

I have a gridview control. In this grid view there is a column for the price of an item. Some of the prices have a dollar sign in front of it and some dont. How do I get rid of the dollar sign if it is in front of the value? My guess would be to use a template column but I dont know how to go about this. Any ideas? Below is an example of what the data looks like raw from the database: $456.95 200.89

Hi Group, Not looking for an answer, but more of an explanation. Thinking back to those heady days when you had the time to do them, may I ask this. Exercise 1-22 asks for a program to "fold" long input lines into 2 or more shorter lines before the nth column... etc etc. Now, there are numerous anwers on the web and in the "C answer book", which includes a function to expand the tabs to blanks ( depending upon where the tab is in...

Is there any builtin function or module with a function similar to my made-up, not-written deformat function as follows? I can't imagine it would be too easy to write, but possible... 'I am coding, and he coded last week.' ('coding', 'coded', 'week') expanded (for better visual): ('coding', 'coded', 'week')

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
