Windows XP x64 Professional. Service Pack 2. Failed install 800700

I am having trouble with 3 Updates for XP x64. Service pack 2, RDC update
925876 and Security Update 928843. I have enabled verbose logging, followed
the steps in 873148, but there is no Error 5. I have no idea where to go. Can
anyone help? I emailed the Automatic Update helpers, but they just told me to
come here. I have gone round in circles with this. Two machines, one fresh
install, one about 4 months old. Neither will install these three updates.
Both have different hardware.

I have a need to become familiar with SQL Server 2000 for work. Needless to say I am new to SQL Server any version, but not IT in general. My employer has provided me with the SQL Server 2000 Personal disk from the SQL Server 2000 Enterprise kit as this is reported here on the MSDN web site to be the version that is supported on Windows XP. In fact so many of you kind people confess to having succeeded in doing it. I have tried...

I have turned off the firewall just in case that was a...

To demonstrate my problem, I have a very simple VB Windows application. It has a text box that is used to display a counter, a button to reset the counter, and a timer that increments the counter every second. I remote desktop to the computer hosting this application and run the application. It starts up and displays the counter incrementing every second. If I disconnect the network cable between the two computers for 10 seconds and...

I have a .Net application (VB, VS 2005, FX 2) running in more than one country. As part of the product registration process, some information on the computer is collected and sent to a web service; this includes the operating system which is obtained using the My.Computer.Info.OSFullName function. For some machines we get "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" and for others "Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2". I understand these...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
