I am writing a tcp tunnel but cannot find a way of detecting when a socket
shuts down its read end without writing to the socket. For testing the
write end of the remote endpoint I just do a:
if not sock.recv(buffsize)
I cannot write to the socket and check if send returns 0 though, because
that involves sending data out of the which may not have come in yet.
When I try polling the socket with:

Hi,
I am using Sockets to connect to a remote computer and send data using
Socket.Send() and receive using Socket.Receive() (block mode) . for
somereason tho, when the client disconnects the Socket.Receive() just passes
without any exception. Is there any way to detect disconnection using
Sockets?
I believe I saw a way of doing this using IAsyncResult, and eventhandling
but..no article really explained how to use it properly.

I wrote a service that listens for broadcast messages from my firewall (UDP
snmp trap messages) and parses and puts the data in an database.
I'd also like to write an app that is a simple form that can listen in when
it runs (so I can see messages in a form as they occur.)
So I need the ability to listen to a UDP port with two apps at the same time
(the service and my app). But when I do that I get an error:...

I am trying to create socket to communicate over TCP/IP.
All works just fine but I need to add some functionnality.
I have 2 network cards on my computer each having one IP
address.
I want the communication to happen on a specific one.
So I do the following:
MySocket = New Socket(AddressFamily.Unspecified,
SocketType.Stream, ProtocolType.Tcp)
MySocket.Bind(LocalEP)

Hello,
Could someone please explain why the Socket.Send is slow to send to the same
process it sending from. Eg. Process1 calls Socket.Send which sends to the
same IP address and port, the receiver is running within Process1.
If I move the receiver into Process2 then its fast.
Please can someone explain.

There is two examples of code.
Example 1. Send and Receive within the same process. Put this code in a
console app called SendAndReceive and run the code.
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Net;
using System.Net.Sockets;
using System.Runtime.Serialization.Formatters.Binary;

I am trying to write a simple FTP server in order to learn about
sockets
This is my first time trying sockets
This code should take a connection on port 8110, dump it to a client
"thread" (not a thread yet), print "Test\n" to the thread, and close
everything.
It fails on creating the client thread with error 106: 'Transport
endpoint is already connected'

The code below works fine. As of now I just set the buffer length real big and all is good. However, I hate the impreciseness of that.
So my question in general is how do I know what length to set the buffer? In specific, my question is what causes the 'completed' event in the OnSocketConnectCompleted method to fire? Does it fire at end of a packet or does happen at some end of data marker?
public SocketClient(Page pg, Int32...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
