change Web service Url in the config file

Hi everybody,
Our company has identical web services running on different machines and I
tried to switch to another server by changing Url in a config file - it
doesn't work that way. Does anybody have a clue how to do it without adding a
new web reference to a project and recompiling?

In the properties of the Web Service change the url from Static to Dynamic,
then you can change the url in the web.config.

Hi, I have a Windows Service that uses a referenced dotnet-dll. In my dll I set some public string to a stringvalue that I get from reading a xml-file(my config file). It works fine if I use it in a vb-form. But since Windows Services ? executes? in windows\system32 I can´t locate my xml-config- file. I don´t want to set different "compiling-statements" such as :

I have a service with settings in the app.config file. I would like to be able to change these settings without restarting the service. Something similar to a web.config with web services. Whenever I change a setting, for example the folder that data is written to, the change does not seem to register. What I believe is that the app.config is read in at the startup of the exe (windows service), and then never read again. Is there a way to...

I've written a simple service that reads the app.config file on start. It works fine if I start it from the VS IDE -- F5 then installutil I then created a package, wherein the content of app.config has "" for the values. With the idea that my user, can enter the information before starting the service. However; this doesn't work. I'm very confused. As a test, I "emptied" the app.config file and rebuilt, then did an installutil. ...

Hello all. I'm writing an application that is writing trace information that can be viewed in trace.axd. I would like to rename this and use a different name specific to my application. I know the name of this is set in machine.config. I was hoping it would be possible to change this in web.config. I got it to work, kind of. Good news is I can change the name in my web.config file. Bad news is that trace.axd still works meaning I can...

When using Web Services from ASP.NET 1.1, you got a "Web References" folder in your project containing an entry for the web service references you added. The property page for this entry contained the URL to the web service and you could change this URL if you wanted to point to another web service and then you could do an "Update Web Reference" to refresh the references. In ASP.NET 2.0, you get a "App_WebReferences" folder instead, but...

I'm using controls in my ASP.NET application from a couple of vendors. I had occasion tonight to write an installer class that changed something in a config file tonight (I had never had a need to do it, but happened upon a "How To" article that explained it in terms of a web app and decided to try it with a regular app). What I discovered was that for some reason the .config file is not being copied with Primary Output. In checking a few other apps for which I had written installers I found that they too...

Hi How do I programmatically change (read/write) the values in this app.config file at runtime? Specifically I want to change the client endpoint address but it would be nice to change other values too. I thought this is what ServiceHost is for but is seems way more complicated to use for what I'm trying to do. <system.serviceModel> <bindings>

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
