Webservice automation

PZ
Any suggestions on how to setup a webservice (or the surroundings) so a
certain webmethod can be called on given intervals?

Lets say I have a webmethod I want to call once each hour and I don't want
to have another PC standing around to make the call using a timer event.
I've placed my webservice on a webhotel so the only access to the webservice
is from an ASP/ASPX/HTML pages placed on the very same server.

Is it possible or even a bad idea? I could have my own server, but the
webhotel's internet connection is 20 times faster and I really need this
speed for optimal performance in the webmethod. And since the webhotel only
allows webservices/ASP/ASPX/HTML pages (as far as I know) my options are
limited to that.

Maybe a javascript timer on a web page that counts down from 3600 seconds
and invokes the web service? If so, then AJAX might be the best route.

Hello there, We're new to C# and have noticed a strange behaviour which we don't yet understand. We wrote a COM DLL (in VC++ 6.0) which performs some calculation based on some double arrays passed as input parameters to the DLL through the SetParams method defined as follows: interface ICliquet : IPricable

hi guys, I have encountered a problem with IE automation (.NET 2.0, C#, mshtml, SHDocVw). I am writing a class for manipulating specific html pages with frames. It is supposed to be used from a web service. The problem is that when I use the InternetExplorer object in web service, it seems like the underlying IE doesn't support frames. When I try to access HTMLDocumentClass.frames property I get the following exception: Specified...

Hi all, I'm currently working on a project where we have a need to expose an Excel spreadsheet on the web as a webservice that needs to be reliable and available 24x7x365. I've implemented a prototype of this in python using the win32com library to interface with the Excel Automation API via COM. I've also used web.py as a way to expose this automation functionality to the network. This works just fine as a prototype that proves that...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
