#1) Burning question on my mind is ... what is the
difference between a "web service" and a distributed COM
component other then a distributed COM component had to
be registered on a host server and be a part of a network
whereas the web service can be located via URL?
I don't see much of a difference and it bugs me :-) They
both sit outside of the client computer. They both
provide functionality. They are both called remotely.

Is there a way to query a remote xml file periodically by not using web
services? For Windows and Unix platforms. Is there a cheap software product
that I can install on each client and my Windows 2000 server and have
'secure' network access? I would love to use VS.NET to access both windows
and Unix/Linux xml files.

Hi, I am trying to access a webservice using VC++.Net. When I try and
add a webservice using Project/Add Webservice I get to messages: "No
Web References were found on this page" and "the request failed with
HTTP status 407:Proxy Access Denied" Can anybody "baby step" me
through the procedure I need to follow in order to remedy this problem.
I just use C++ for its computational speed and am not a professional
programmer.

Just finishing an intro book to VB programming; I covered basics on how
to due this or that for services and components. However, I'm still
wondering the following. What's the main advantage or reason to use:
web service, system service, or component? What advantages does one
have over the other? They all seem to expose methods that can be used
one way or another.

Hi,
I have a web service which returns a record set and works well integrated
with an asp dot net page.
However if I decided to develop a unix app
will i be able to read the dataset as it is
or do i need to write the xml as text from the web service and supply a DTD.
Also any other pitfalls
TIA

Does someone have experience with gSoap and .NET webservices?
I've build a .NET webservice that works very well but only with .NET clients. Creating a client with gsoap 7.10 gives errors:
(...)
Tags 'q1:FCKLoginResponse' and 'q4:FCKLoginResponse' match but namespaces differ
Receiving SOAP Fault
Error: soap_get_soapfault() failed. Is this a SOAP message at all?
Using different version of gsoap gives different results!

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
