I wrote a webservice to output a report file. The fields of the report
are formatted based on information in an in-memory XmlDocument. As
each row of a SqlDataReader are looped through, a lookup is done, and
format information retrieved.
The performance was extremely poor -- producing about 1000 rows per minute.
However, when I used tracing/logging, my results were inconclusive.
First of all, based on the size of the data and the...

Hi,
I'm currently writing a Web Services that interacts with a database.
To allow me to use not just one database provider (for example, I
could use MS Access, SQL Server or MySQL), the Web Service dynamically
loads up an assembly that implements an Interface I called IDatabase.
To load the assembly and create an object, I wrote this function:
private IDatabase LoadDatabasePlugin( string assemblyFile, string

Ahmmm. It was my aim to match the performance of C and I achieved that
aim very early on. See, for example "The Design and Evolution of C++".

Lets just say my app is done HOO HOO.
Now, I'm accessing the database via a web service and one thing i noticed
that my app is running real slow. When I first started working on the app is
ran pretty quick returned the data to the screens in about 2 - 3 seconds. Now
its going about 5 - 10 seconds. How can I beef it up for better performance.

I have just started playing around with Web Services. I created a sample
Web Service and invoked a sample "Hello World" method call from my Win Forms
control running under an ASP.NET web page. The time it takes to return the
result seems a little bit much. It takes anywhere from 500 to 800
milliseconds to return a simple "Hello World" string message. This is even
running it on localhost. Is this normal for the request to take this...

I noticed that each call to a web service method creates a new instance of
the web service class by calling its constructor. As I was not aware of that
at the time the code was written I included in the constructor an
initialization procedure that prepared the data for all the web service
methods.
This situation may result in a significant degradation in performance, for
example when a method that does not require initialization at all...

Hi,
I am developing a service, both client and server in C# WSE2. To secure the
connection I'm using both server and client certificate. The problem is that
I receive a performance hit for about 20-30 sec on the first call with the
following calls under 1 sec. So my question is, what the heck is going on?
:-) Can someone confirm that this is casused by the SSL handshake?
Now, this would be a minor problem if it only occured on the first...

I have a web service that does some heavy lifting with XML and hash tables.
I moved my architecture to Windows 2003 (5 identical servers behind a load
balancer, 1 stayed on Windows 2000), and now have a major performance
problem. The Win2k3 servers are running at an average of 7.7s/call, and the
Win 2000 runs at 2.6s/call. I broke my logging in 4 parts, and the more XML
or XSL the part has, the more apparent the differnce in run time.

In a deployed .Net Service is there any settings that can be made on
the server level that can log all requests to the service and the time
that the request was made to the service and the time the request was
sent back to the client?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
