Files locations in WEB project

I'm learning WEB site stuff with C# and have a question.
In order to produce precompiled application (dlls and required for a real
hosting files) it's not enough to build the solution. It must be published.
This process will create necessery files.
I used to keep all data (including all VS projects) outside of my primary
partition. I'm using Symantec Ghost to create an image of my working primary
partition. In case I get some problem (installed some bad program, got some
problem with windows settings etc.) I restore the image within several
minutes and all problems fixed.
I like to keep my related files in one location.
Before I started WEB stuff with VS 2005 I had no problem with my approaches.
Now when I work with WEB in C# and select the location for my project for
instance "D:\MyVSSamples \MyTestWEB", it creates an additional folder
"C:\Documen ts and Settings\My Name\My Documents\Visua l Studio
2005\Projects\M yTestWEB".
I wouldn't want to have files of my project in 2 locations. Every time when
VS asks me to save sln file it doesn't offer me the save dialog to select
another location and saves sln on drive C:. Later I can change it. The same
with publishing - it gives me the default path in "C:\Documen ts and
Settings\My Name\My Documents\Visua l Studio 2005\Projects\M yTestWEB" folder.
Is there any setting in VS to change this behaviour? I wouldn't want to
change those locations every time.

Hi, How can I control the location of the bytecode files? The reason I ask is I want to place the bytecode in a directory different than source code for backup reasons. Our backup system is directory based and I only want to have source code backed up, not object files or pyc files. Thanks,

I am developing using Visual C#.net. It appears that my web projects create files in both "My Documents\Visual Studio Projects" and ".\inetpub\webroot". Does backing up these files ensure that my code is all backed up? Is there a backup/restore FAQ somewhere? -- Thanks, Martin Schmid, EIT, CCSA, MCDBA, MCSE

I'm relatively new to the .cs world. I would like to have some "shared" .cs files, which several solutions can use. I don't want to place these in a ..dll, I simply want them included into various applications. I have tried several methods, but most have failed. The most obvious way (I thought) was to place the .cs files in a parent folder (maybe called "shared"), and then simply drag-n-drop the files into the "Solution Explorer" (files...

I have created two configurations. One is called Release-Internal and one is called Release-External. I also have two config files named Internal.config and External.config. The difference in the files is that the server locations included within each file are either the local internal addresses or the external public addresses. I've set the "override file" property in the configuration option property page to be Interal.config for...

I have a generic data layer DLL that expects to read its connection string from it's own config file. The dll and config file have been placed in the bin directory (VS.NET2005). However, due to shadow copying, the config file does not get placed in the same directory as the executing assembly at execution time. For example, my data access DLL was copied to the following location .... ...

Hi there, I wonder if any of the gifted people here can help me. The project I am working on takes data from several locations via xml files which are emailled over to me on a weekly basis. HI all, Suppose I have a huge code base, And I have a very common header file. Now there are mulitple places where this header file is kept. This header file cannot be factored as it has different function prototypes in different places. Now can there be a safeguard at compile time to maintain the #defines in the different headers files to be same . ie suppose I add a new type in one of the header files and then want

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
