Internal Webservice - UDDI Needed?

Hello there,

I am new to web-services and so kindly excuse me for this silly basic
question.

I am writing a web service which wraps a VB COM DLL. Do I need to make
an UDDI entry when my client clearly knows me and will access me
through a firewall? Do I need to maintain a local UDDI which nobody
else need to know.

Thanks a lot for your inputs.

Ravi

Thanks a lot, John. So the client can use my asmx directly without any
issues, right?

Assuming your consumer is able to authenticate properly (or is able to
access your web service anonymously) and any required proxy configuration is
performed then your consumer is able to directly call your ASMX page.

How to Set Up a Private UDDI Server? Dear all, I attempt to set up a private UDDI server using .NET. But I didn't find out enough information on the problem. Anyone can give me some resources on the Web or any book talks about the issue? I would like to use the UDDI server to publish my Web services and access them at runtime. It seems...

Dear all, UDDI has widely been accepted by the developer community to list and integrate XML web services. Unfortunately UDDI is still viewed as a yellow pages web service directory. This leads to the belief that UDDI can only be used at design time as a look up mechanism. The real value of UDDI lies as a runtime execution model. So I...

I was told by someone that all web services must be registered with UDDI before they will function. I created a web service on my local server and it works fine so I don't see any reason why UDDI would be a requirement if you know the exact location of the web service you are trying to access. Am I wrong? Chris

I am deploying Uddi as a distributed component, database server plus app server. Unfortunately the database server in production is a 64-bit SQL 2005 server.
