Kernel32.dll Error in VB.Net 2.0 Windows Service

Hi All,

I have a problem with a Windows Service written in .NET 2.0.
The Service is running on a Windows Service 2003.

The Services main purpose is to communicate with a MSSqlServer 2000
(it is connecting via the SqlClient Object)

From Time to time the following Message is in the Application Event Log of
the Server:

Faulting application <ProgramName>.e xe, version 1.1.1.2, faulting module
kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.566, fault address 0x00019d49.

After this the Service stops.

I handled my execeptions with care and for the case I forgot something I put
this code in my main thread:

Dim currentDomain As AppDomain = AppDomain.Curre ntDomain
....
AddHandler currentDomain.U nhandledExcepti on, AddressOf
UnhandledExcept ionHandler

....
Private Sub UnhandledExcept ionHandler(ByVa l sender As Object, ByVal e As
UnhandledExcept ionEventArgs)

...
End Sub
I don't know if this is sufficient for catching all execeptions in a Windows
Service.
If you know a better solution please let me know.

I'm writting all exceptions to a Logfile but it seems that whatever causes
this problem is never caught by my code...

Do you have any Idea where this error could come from or how I could track
it down?

Thanks in advance

I have C++ .NET mixed (managed/unmanaged) application. I build it under W2K and it works fine. However when I tried to run it under NT 4.0 I've got the following error message: The procedure entry point GetLocalPathName could not be located in the dynamic link library Kernel32.dll" Apparently this function is not implemented in Windows NT 4.

I am not sure if this is more of an expert question, but I am sure that they are out there. I'd like to setup a general application or bin directory on my Win2003.Net Server that will hold some useful utils that more pages on that server can use. As an example, I have created a Page Counter class that opens an Access .mdb file, counts the current entries for that page, and adds a new entry with some information regarding the current...

I want to find out all dll's a process have. I've found example code on the page http://www.freevbcode.com/ShowCode.asp?ID=295 The problem is, the sample is written in vb6, but Application is written in vb.NET. I've rewritten the code for vb.net, but if I run the application, there is following runtime error message System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at...

Please note, I already posted this on the MySQL official forum, but received no response. I thought I'd try again in another location. My apologies to anyone reading this twice... Despite everything I've tried, I cannot get MySQL to start as a Windows service. However, I AM able to get it started via the mysqld-nt --console command. Here is my (funky) setup:

I am sure this has been asked at least once before but I could not find anything when searching. If I set the value of the ExitCode property to 1066 for a windows service, the text "A service specific error occured: 0." How do I (if it is possible) change the value of the zero to something custom (like a "look in the event log for further information" message)? Thank you,

I thought it would be nice to share the solution to my IIS headache with the rest of the world. I have developed a web application that has been distributed. Upon installing my application, some people encountered a "500 Internal Error" and of course blamed my software immediately (and got frustrated when uninstalling/reinstalling my software didn't fix the problem). Finally I was able to take a look at one of these computers and discovered...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
