I'd like to programmatically remove a service or change its startup
type to disabled. I know how to remove it from the command line but
is there another way using the win32 extensions?
I've looked through the win32 help file but when it lists the
arguments for its methods (such as win32service.ChangeServiceConfig)
it doesn't give a dictionary of possible arguments. How can I tell
what int is associated with what Access Type (in...

I am experiencing an issue that i have seen posted with various
descriptions but lacks any answers. I have .Net Framework 1.1
services that run without issue on windows 2000 professional; however
when set to automatic on windows 2000 server the service control
manager reports that the "service hung on starting". Sometimes when
the message is reported, the service starts anyways. Other times it
doesn't. I have created an empty service...

Hi,
How do you change the Startup Type of a Windows Service with VB.NET?
When using the ServiceController you can Start and Stop a Service, but I
can't find anywhere how to change the Startup Type?
Thanks a lot in advance,
Pieter

I have a service with settings in the app.config file. I would like to
be able to change these settings without restarting the service. Something
similar to a web.config with web services. Whenever I change a setting, for
example the folder that data is written to, the change does not seem to
register. What I believe is that the app.config is read in at the startup of
the exe (windows service), and then never read again. Is there a way to...

Hi,
I just wrote a test Windows Service that creates a text file on startup
(please see my code below). The file is never created.
Protected Overrides Sub OnStart(ByVal args() As String)
Dim swLog As StreamWriter = File.CreateText("C:\myLog.txt")
swLog.WriteLine("My Windows Service has just started.")
swLog.Close() : swLog.Flush()
End Sub

I created Windows Service in VB.Net with the name MSFaxListener.
It should listen Windows Fax Service events and update SQL Server database
when fax job changes it's status. In order to do that in OnStart event of
MSFaxListener I'm trying to connect to MS Fax Service.
I set Startup Type of MSFaxListener to Automatic, so it starts and listens.
Sometimes it doesn't connect to MS Fax Service. I think it is because MS Fax
Service did not start...

Hello,
I have written a windows service and created an installer for it.
The service runs under the system accounts. When started, it launches a
GUI.
By default, the InteractiveProcess property of the service is not set
(this can be checked by right-clicking on the service in the Services
window (Admin tools>Services), choosing Properties, LogOn tab). In
order to enable my service to launch a GUI at startup, I added the
following lines...

Can you please help me to resolve the following issue:
I developed a windows service. At start up (I have overriden OnStart
method) it connects to a web service and if the connection fails the windows
service sets ExitCode property to non-zero value (55) and calls Stop method.
If this happens when user starts the service in Services snap-in SCM shows
error massage and service stops - it's OK.
I configured automatic startup and Recovery...

Hi...
After I installed my .net windows service, I tried to control some of the
behavior with the Start Parameters: in the services control parameter.
I can put a value in the box but for some reason it never gets saved (I open
the properties right after, and the box is empty). How does one persist a
value in the Start Parameters box for a service?
Thanks

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
