Hi
I'm writing a commercial program which must be reliable. It has to do
some basic reading and writing to and from files on the hard disk,
and also to a floppy.
I have foreseen a potential problem. The program may crash
unexpectedly while writing to the file. If so, my program should
detect this during startup, and then (during startup) probably delete the
data added to the file and redo the writing operation.

I think the .NET framework is great!
It's nice, clean and logical; in contradiction to the old Microsoft.
It only saddens me that the new Microsoft still doesn't under stand there own rules when it comes to file paths.
A lot of Microsoft installers for example, and also installers of other companies, do not work because they handle paths in the following manner:

I am trying to split up and secure a database that we've been using on
a network for a few years, following the procedure listed in Q304932
from microsoft.
I create a new blank database for the front end, and am able to import
tables and link from the backend. Queries come in ok too. When I
tried to import Modules, forms, and reports, most of them failed with
the error: "File Not Found:...

I have a repair and backup database routine which runs when a user closes
down my application.
It works fine in my development machine, but breaks on a client's at the
following line:
If Dir(strLDB) <> "" Then Kill (strLDB)
where strLDB is the path to the ldb file.
The client advises that the ldb doesn't lurk after the program closes.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I am downloading a GIF file(as a mail attachement) with this file
format, Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64;
Now I am writing the downloaded data to a file with this technique:
streamWriter = new StreamWriter(@startupPath+"\\"+filename, false);
streamWriter.WriteLine(data);
I am not specifying any file Encoding. When I try to open the file

On Saturday, our database machine locked up hard on us due to some
faulty hardware. Since then, we have been getting messages like this:
ERROR: could not access status of transaction 143934068
DETAIL: could not open file "/usr/local/pgsql/data/pg_clog/0089": No
such file or directory
Looking in /usr/local/pgsql/data/pg_clog, the "0089" file isn't
there. Some investigation revealed these messages:

I am running this command from a .bat file.
"C:\pathToAccess\MSACCESS.EXE" "C:\pathToDatabase\db.mdb" /REPAIR
Database repairs as expected, then shows the messge:
"Successfully repaired the ..." and you have to click "Ok" to get rid
of the message so that the database can close.
How does one suppress this message, so that the database shuts down

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
