Debugging a SOAPExtension in a web service client

Hi,

I have a VB.NET 2003 web service client (EXE) that makes use of a
SOAPExtension class. The client calls a web service that returns a
SOAP message containing MIME encoded files. The SOAPExtension
intecepts the SOAP message and extracts the MIME, before passing on the
rest of the SOAP message to the client so it can process the remainder
of the data within the SOAP message.

My problem is that I have taken over the project from a colleague who
has left and I do not how to debug the low level code in the
SOAPExtension class. Whenever I place breakpoints in the SOAPExtension
class they are never hit. However, the breakpoints are always hit in
the webclient.vb class.

My solution consists of the following projects:

* "webclient" project - this contains:
1. "webclient. vb" (main VB code for the client)
2. "soapext.vb " - the SOAPExtension class VB code
3. .config files (i.e. webclient.exe.c onfig)
4. In the references is a reference to MIMEHandler.DLL

* "MIMEHandle r" project - this contains:
1. "soapext.vb "
2. References (to standard .NET system DLLS only)

* "Settings" project - this contains:
1. A settings form for the web client. On this form is a button for
invoking/calling the web service.
2. References (to standard .NET system DLLS only)

Please could someone tell me how to debug the SOAPExtension class. Do
I need to uninstall the web client (Add/Remove programs) and install it
using the .NET INSTALLUTIL utility? Is it better if I install the
client using INSTALLUTIL and then attach to the process? IS this
possible?? Help!!

Many thanks.

Jimmy

I would like to be able to set an arbitrary http header from a SoapExtension when said extension is acting on behalf of a client. I have not seen a means for doing so. For incoming messages or their responses (i.e. when the soap extension is intercepting a message as a server function), HttpContext... provides access to the underlying request/response http messages, so headers can be obtained or added from there. So that's fine. ...

Hi all, I am working on a project which requires webservices to log information about requests that are sent to it. I have written a SoapExtension that logs client information when a request is sent to the webservice. When there are two webservices (on the same IIS machine) and both of them have the same SoapExtension class configured on to it, only one of them can log information (log is written to the same file - I use Log4Net to write...

Hello, I am trying to write a client side SoapExtension to change the target web service url based on information from UDDI. Does any one know how to do it? I tried to set the url in the SoapHttpClientProtocol (SOAPClientMessage.Client), but it did not do anything. I know you could change the target url in client proxy class, but change client proxy code is NOT an option.

Hi, I have double byte characters in the content that I am returning using Web Services. However, the encoding in the xml file returned by Web Services is utf-8 and I am unable to read the content, not even by changing browser encoding setting to the appropriate one. I implemented SoapExtension (called EncodingExtension) to rewrite the xml to change the encoding="utf-8" to encoding="windows-1252" in BeforeDeserialize SoapMessage...

I've got a web service project that was built under VS 2003 which has a SoapExtension in the project. The SoapExtension is registered in the <soapExtensionTypes> element of the web.config and has worked fine for some time. Recently we tryed to update the project to VS 2005 and run it under ASP.NET 2.0, but now we get a compile time exception: "The value of the property 'type' cannot be parsed. The error is: Could not load file or...

I have a problem accessing my custom SoapHeader from a SoapExtension. My extension has no compile time reference to the class derived from SoapHeader, so how can cast it into a SoapHeader of the correct type? Thanks, Andy

I have a .NET 1.1 C# application that needs to connect to a custom web service for authentication and system access. This web service uses a custom SOAP header for security purposes. In the past this has been a non issue because I simply registered a SoapHeaderExtension in the application's App.Config file. Now, however, we have need of using this C# client code in an assembly which doesn't have access to an app.config file (long...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
