VS.NET 2003 Debugger problem

I have a problem where visual studio doesn't break into the vs.net debugger
when an exception is encountered. Instead I get the standard windows
exception message where it allows one to cancel or debug. When I click the
debug button I receive a messagebox that states "An exception 'Unhandled
Win32 Exception' has occurred in <my product>.exe However, a debugger that
cannot handle the exception type is already attached to the process." This
is not only happening on an isolated exception, but on any exception that I
encounter.

I recently had to install the Windows Debugger Tools for a different issue
and believe this may have something to do with it. It seems as though the
wrong debugger is attaching itself to the process. How can I get Visual
Studio to start using the correct debugger?

Thanks

The C++.NET debugger version 2003 has a VERY SERIOUS flaw. I have attempted to rebuild this same application almost a dozen times to get around this bug. I will be forced to scrap the .NET stuff soon and go back to VC6 or Borland... Basically, without warning, the debugger loses track of where source code is for virtual functions. My attempts to clean the build and delete the ncb file have had NO EFFECT. I am using windows forms to...

Hi all, I used to have Visual Studio.net (version 2002) on my PC and it was working just fine, then I installed Word 2003 and after that I could no longer debug applications in VS.net I always got the following error message: "Error whle trying to run project: Unable to start debugging. The debugger is not properly installed. Run setup to install or repair the debugger." Next I tried to install VS.net v2003 (had to upgrade anyway) but...

Hello, It seems VS.NET 2003 locks up itself and the complete shell (mouse locks also) when entering a breakpoint in a special situation. Below is the code to reproduce this behavior. It contains a line where you have to set a breakpoint (the first line in the validation event handler). Compile and run in the debugger in vs.net using F5. When you hit 'enter' in the textbox, the debugger should break in the validator routine where you...

Don't reply to this unless you know what you are talking about. Installed brand spanking new 2003 Server. Configured to be application server. Then installed Visual Studio .NET. Copied over web application from another server and set up normal web site. When I try to debug the application within .NET, it always gives me the error saying that I'm not part of the Debugger Users group. I'm in Administrator, Debugger

I am having yet another issue with Windows Server 2003. This time, the web service (a file import web service) appears to run except for one odd message: "ActiveX component can't create object". There are no other statements to indicate what object cannot be created. Otherwise, everything on the test Windows Server 2003 works fine—all import data updates correctly. Unfortunately, my normal development environment is not Windows...

Hi, I am experiencing a strange problem. I am reading and writing xml files via XmlDocument and XmlTextWriter. In the debugger everything works fine but outside the debugger (debug or release) I receive the following error: "The type initializer for "System.Xml.Schema.Validator" threw an exception." I wrote a small console app that contains the problem -- I've just attached the default class which gets run. Output outside the...

I'm using VC++ 2003. My code throws lots of exceptions but the debugger's handling of these makes the program (and hence debugging process) unusably slow; this was not the case in VC++ 6. So my questions are: 1) is it possible to disable the exception interception mechanism so that the debugger is usable (note that the exception handling to continue with the Exceptions dialogue does not do this)

I've seen a ton of posts about similar problems, but none of the solutions were effective. I've been maintaining this VB code for 3 years, and this is the first time this has happened. It seems that the first one or two breakpoints encountered trigger, but after that, none of my other breakpoints work. Also, when the breakpoints stop working, the debugger seems to lose track of what module the executing code is in, because when the fatal...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
