Hello,
I'm writing a Windows service which performs some potentially long-running,
uninterruptable processes. When the service starts, I create a separate
worker thread to perform the work so as to not block the service control
manager upon startup. The design quandry I'm running into though is how best

Hello all. We have about 10 Window's services that we wrote in c#. We use
them to process row's that we have queued up in various SQL tables.
The services seem to hang at least once in any given 24 hour period. Once we
reset the service, it goes about its processing business until the next time
it hangs. We are wondering if the hanging problem is due to a load issue
(too many windows services on a single machine), a code flaw, or an...

Hi All,
I wrote a windows service which is supposed to stop after specified amount
of time. I am calling OnStop() after specified time. OnStop() methods
executed but I dont see the service stopping.
Please advise how to stop the service.
Thanks,

Hi all!
I have few questions regarding .net windows services
1. are onStart, onStop and other "system" events invoked in separate threads
than msmq events?
2. if so, is there a way for the onStop event to wait with stopping the
service until pending msmq events are finished?
3. if not, does that mean that the onStop event would actually be invoked
after all pending events are finished?

I created a service in VS 2003 and the code works fine as an application,
but not as a service.
It installs fine, but when I try to start it, it tells me it was unable to
start.
Am I missing something here?
Here is the program.

Hi,
I am writing a Windows Service in C#. I want to gracefully fail the
"protected override void OnStop()" function. To do this, I first tried
throwing an Exception in the function. However, that left the Service
in a "Stopping" state.
I would like to fail the Service in the OnStop function without putting
the service in the Stopping state. It would be nice if it's still in
the Started state. Is this possible? If so, how?

A few service stop/start/restart questions on SQL Server 2005 SP2, which
I'll call SQLS.
It looks as if there are *potentially* 6 ways to start/stop SQLS
Services like the engine itself, integration services, reporting
service, Agent..
-SQLS Configuration Manager
-SQLS Surface Area Configuration (for Services and Connections)
-Mgmt Studio Local (on server)

Hi,
I have two windows services running together. One is the main
program, and one is an "updater" wrapper for the main. The updater
service starts and stops the main one (as in you should never start or
stop main service manually, only updater).
On most computers it works great, the updater's onStop() can start and
stop the main service perfectly. On some computers, though, the
updater hangs when it tries to stop the main service. It...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
