How to return error message ???

Dear all,

I need to define a web method to be executed according to user
authentificatio n.
For that I am using SoapHeader class

Then when my client application request the execution of web method, it
checks if the user which emit the request is allowed to received return data.
If yes, data gets return to the client, if not I need to send an error
message back to the client

How my web service method can return to my client a message like "Access
denied" ?

Thanks for your reply

regards
serge

Hi, In SQL Books Online in the section on @@Error it gives the following example: -- Execute the INSERT statement. INSERT INTO authors (au_id, au_lname, au_fname, phone, address, city, state, zip, contract) values (@au_id,@au_lname,@au_fname,@phone,@address,

Hello, I have an ASP that takes a connection string and SQL statement in the querystring and is supposed to return the XML representation of the recordset to the Response stream (don't worry, this is a local page, not one on the Internet). I had it working fine with row-returning SQL, such as SELECT, but was trying to get it to work with non-row-returnign ones as well (such as UPDATE and DELETE). Not only can't I get this bit to work, I...

Greetings, I am attempting to compile the code below, but I am receiving an error message when I do so. The error message is: "CSO161: 'Forloop.CalcAvg(int)': Not all code paths return a value". Any idea as to what I'm doing wrong? I'm sure it's something simple. Thanks in advance! public class ForLoop

Hi, I was getting an error in my program saying that return keyword must not be followed by an object expression. I was confused first because I was using return statement in a valid "if" statement. e.g. if(expression) return false; Later, I found that this error was due to a mistake in my method declaration. I had put void as a return type in my method. When I changed this to bool, everything works.

Hi all, I think the VB .NET compiler should at least issue a warning when a function does not return value. C# and C++ compilers treat this situation as an error and I believe this is the right thing to do. And I wonder why VB .NET keeps silence and makes such function return some default value instead. Isn't it error-prone? -- Dmitriy Lapshin

Our web service was working fine until we installed .net Framework 1.1 service pack 1. Uninstalling SP1 is not an option because our largest customer says service packs marked as "critical" by Microsoft must be installed on their servers. Now german Umlaute (ä, ü, ö) and quotes are returned incorrectly in SOAP fault responses. This can be easily verified: Implement the following in a web service method (just raises a SOAPException with a...

I have had a lively discussion with some coworkers and decided to get some general feedback on an issue that I could find very little guidance on. Why is it considered bad practice to define a public member with a return type that is derived from System.Exception? I understand the importance of having clean, concise code that follows widely-accepted patterns and practices, but in this case, I find it hard to blindly follow a standard...

You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
