I've inherited a program that was developed in Visual Studio and I'm
having a problem with build times. The program is about 250,000 lines
and I'm storing the entire project on a network drive. We've got
gigabyte ethernet and it's a high speed raid array but it still takes
about 5
minutes to do the smallest recompile and about 1 hour and 15 minutes
to do a full rebuild (pretty annoying).
I'd like to move the object and binary files to...

Hi
I'm developing an ASP.NET app in Visual studio (using C# for code behind). My question is fairly simple (i think). When I go to the code behind page, the controls in the html page are made "protected" so that it can only be accessed from within that page.
I would like to permanently make this "public" for certain controls, so that I can access them from another page (the page that a user control is embedded into for example). If I...

Is it possible to change the default templates in VS 2003?
Everytime I start a new web method project I have to include a ton of
version control headers and region tags. It would be handy to be able
to alter the default templates to include all of this stuff so I don't
have to each time.
Thanks.

Hello,
When you add a new web form in VS.NET it
automatically adds the following namespaces at the top:
using System;
using System.Collections;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Data;
using System.Drawing;

I am new to this newsgroup & to .NET in general. I have been playing around
with Visual Studio .NET, building and rendering web pages using VB "code
behind" files. My problem / question is;
How do I ensure that changes made to the "Global.asax.vb" file are
immediately reflected in the "Global.asax" file? After I change to the
"Global.asax.vb" file, the "Global.asax" file date modified does not change
and I do not see the updated values...

I need to reference a file on my published server as
"../mydir/myfile.txt", which is fine and it works.
On my local develop computer the "../mydir" refers to C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7
Is there any way I can get the "../" to refer to somewhere more
convenient, ideally as /mydir within my project.
I could not find any settings in Visual Studio, which referred to this

So, what is the relationship between Visual Studio and Visual Web Developer.
I find a lot of documentation on MSDN that presents Visual Web Developer as
it's own stand-alone product (which I'd expect of the Express editions), but
apparently there are NON Express versions of Visual Web Developer.
Is Visual Web Developer only built-in to Visual Studio 2008 Professional? I
see "Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008" listed as an installed...

I'm not sure if this is an IIS 5.1 issue or ASP.NET issue, or Visual Studio
2008 issue -- thus posting to 3 groups. Please don't be offended.
The problem I'm encountering is that Visual Studio closes unexpectedly and
without any error message being displayed, or error messages written to the
system logs. Visual Studio closes when I attempt to open an ASP.NET Web
application (not Web site) solution for which IIS is set as the project's...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
