integration with Outlook 2003: slower on XP than W2K? after upgrade?

Hi,

I have a VB.NET (2.0) application that integrates with Outlook 2003. I have
windows XP SP2.
The users had Windows 2000, and Office 2000. They upgraded (!) to Office
2003.

But:
- an action that takes 0,5 seconds on my pc, takes them 4-5 seconds
- an action that takes 2,5 seconds on my pc, takes them 8-9 seconds

So for a test we completely desinstalled Office 2003, and did a full
re-install of 2003 on a system. Performance increased with +- 30%: times are
now 2,5 seconds and 6 seconds. But still much more than my 0,5 and 2,5....

What's the reason of this performance-problem? The user do have as much RAM
as I, do have a better processor! (I have a stupid Centrino, they a P4 with
HT).

Will installing Windows XP the solution? Does Office 2003 perform better on
Windows XP than on Windows 2000?

Any help our hints would be really appreciated!
Thanks a lot in advance,

Pieter

Pieter,

Are you than sure that you are not one of those special persons that got
from your administrator a connection on a 1Gb port?

AndElse

My expirience is that the time to get the startup information from Exchange
server seems sometimes to be endless, while for persons who never clean up
there folders in the pubs (or have very long address lists) it is even
longer.

I don't even knwo what a 1Gb port is, hehe :-)

Well, I somehow guess it's because of the fact that the clients do have
W2000 and not XP. When you see that they do have a 40% performance increase
by simply re-installing Outlook 2003 from scratch instead of doing an
upgrade from Office 2000 to 2003...

But before I ask the administrator to re-install a pc, I'd like to have some
support for my theory :)

Well, if you upgraded Outlook 2000 to 2003 and did not create a new mail
profile, you could see side-effects like you describe or other ones. With
that particular upgrade, a new mail profile is a good idea.

Try creating a new mail profile on one of the slow machines and see if it
helps.

Hi We are developing an off-the-shelf software suite for a certain business sector. Most of the program is simply a GUI on top of some .mdb files. Its a .net application written in c# One major requirement is "Outlook Integration". The Outlook contact folders are to be used for contact management I want to know what is the standard way to do this these days. Most of the information in MSDN seems rather old I first used the Outlook...

I found this code below to use to send emails using VB with Outlook. However, it gives these errors. 'Send' is ambiguous across the inherited interfaces 'Outlook._MailItem' and 'Outlook.ItemEvents_Event'. Name 'olByReference' is not declared. Name 'olMailItem' is not declared. Name 'olTo' is not declared. How could i edit this code to get it to work?

We have an Outlook 2000 VBA application - 8 user forms, and about a thousand lines of code - that we wish to distribute. We know that we can password-protect the code, but that does not give us the desired level of security We plan to use VB.NET to create an executable file which we will distribute to our users. We have tested this, and it works. However, I've seen some references on various newsgroups indicating that this will not work,...

Having a problem sending emails through vb.net. Our inhouse software automatically sends an email to the programming staff whenever an error is encountered. This code works just fine on machines that are windows 2000 based. We recently upgraded from Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2003, and it still works. We have one machine with XP service pack 1. It works fine there. This also was upgraded from outlook 200 to outlook 2003.

Hi all, Has anyone been able to reterive the gradient selection colors used in outlook 2003? Basically, I have a grid showing a list of records and my client wants the selected row to have the same selection gradient back color as Outlook 2003 has on its left pane. The selected pane in Outlook 2003 have a gradient orange color for blue color scheme in XP. This gradient color changes according to the color schemes of the windows XP. Can...

My organization currently has interfaces in place to generate MS Outlook emails from our business applications. I am trying to determine if it is possible and how difficult it might be to interface with MS Ecxhange or Outlook from a business application and add items to a user's calendar, task list, or at a minimum to set a follow up flag in an email. We are running Exchange 2003 and a variety of MS Outlook 2000 and 2003. We do have...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
