ASP.NET & Sqlserver 2000/2005 Image archiving and presentment

Ron
Hi there

My company is developing a web based document archival and retrieval system,
using ASP.NET, c# and sqlserver 2000. This development is in testing at
present and all looks promising.

Here's some background to the app...

Our application stores the document in an image field along with other
information related to the document that we index and use to search and
locate it.
We are doing this using an ASP.NET web page. Currently this all works and
performs well; we read the document from the db image field (into a c#
bytearray) and then response.write this back to the user.

My question is related to the storing of '.pdf' documents in sqlserver image
fields.

I have read in at least one place that we should actually have the documents
kept on the filesystem instead of the image field, and just hold a string
'path' to the documents location in the filesystem, ie C:/docs/mydoc.pdf.
This is to increase peformance.

I expect our system to be used by several hundred users at some point and
would like to sleep well at night knowing i have made the right choice. It
would be a shame to change direction at this late stage, so some opinion or
guidance would be very much appreciated. Are we doing things all wrong? If
not can you give any tips on how to make sure the streaming of data from
sqlserver to iis is quick?

Ps, we have sqlserver 2005 available now, if this makes any differnce to the
answer.

Thanks and look forward to a reply from my first ever post as a msdn
subscriber....

Hi, I need to store and retrieve information from a database. It looks as though there is a lot more support for SQLServer than there is for Access, correct me if I am wrong. What do I have to do to get SQLServer and which version should I be using. Or is SQLServer already part of the VS.Net? Are there any good examples that you know of.

Can I use SQLServer 2000 with ASP.NET 2.0 instead of SQLServer 2005, and use the .Net 2.0 Membership functionality? I've setup my Login page, controls, etc., and now it's time to use the Web Site Administration Tool (WAT) but it won't sense my SQLServer 2000 database.

I've previously used version 7 and 2000. I've recently started to learn ASP.net. I've installed Visual Web Developer 2005 Express and this includes SQLServer 2005 in the installation. The task manager and and the list of services definitely show I've got SQLServer running on my computer. Here's the problem: how do I actually use it? I can't find any tools to create and access databases.

Hello, I need some help with SQL Server 2000 SP4. I've been using the developer product for a few years now on my PC with very few problems. Today when I try to start up Enterprise Manager, it crashes immediately. I get the usual "Please tell Microsoft about this problem" dialog and if I click the 'click here' link, I'm presented with a dialog that says: -------------------------------------------------

I have some old ASP programs w/ SQLserver 2000 databases. Now I am developing ASP.NET projects using VB 2005 and SQLserver 2005. What are the best procedures to develop and test the ASP.NET programs? My main concerns are: 1. What do I need to test? VB 2005/ASP.NET with 2000 data? Migration of 2000 data to SQLserver 2005? VB 2005/ASP.NET with 2005 data? 2. How to minimize the transition time? What is the critical change for the...

I'm trying to automate an auto-export of a table on a daily basis, using BCP. I'm using native format for the BCP because the text in one of the fields can encompass pretty much any ASCII characters, and using the other options (including the null terminator, stuff like |||, etc) hasn't worked particularly well. So, I'm archiving out a table on a daily basis. I want to script out the table at the same time; that way, if there are any...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
