This is long. Bear with me, as I will really go through all the convoluted
stuff that shows there is a problem with streams (at least when used to
redirect stdout).
The basic idea is that my application (VB.NET) will start a process,
redirect its stdout and capture that process' output, displaying it in a
window.
I've written a component for this, and a test application for the component.
It allows me to specify a command to execute,...

I am attempting to install the MSDE (SQL 2000) as a part of our application.
This requires that you run the MSDE setup.exe program from a Console mode
application, it just hangs forever part way through if executed from a
standard application.
My question is:
How can I make my console mode install application resize it's window or
minimize. The code below is what I'm currently trying which doesn't work...
the Console BOX stays full...

Hello Everyone
How do you format format numbers right-justified using Console.WriteLine(), i.e
I need to line up numbers in vertical columns and the MSDN documentation is pretty poor
Here is the problem
double percent_00_01 = 1D / 10000D
double percent_00_10 = 1D / 1000D
double percent_01_00 = 1D / 100D
double percent_10_00 = 10D / 100D

Hello,
i've been dealing with this problem whole morning, but havent quite
figured out the solution. The thing is: i have a C# program that calls
a function from a C++ dll. While running, the function uses "cout" a
lot, to print out useful data. Now here is the problem: this data is
being written in an output window and i want to redirect this data to
an application window or a text box. If thats not possible, then the
data should be at...

Hi all,
I have developed a vb.net console application which will run some code
every seconds. To get this working I used a timer "System.Timers".
When I start my console application it exits within a second. So I
added the line: "Console.Read()". Everything seemes to run fine but
after a few days the application stopped. Without an error.
I think it has something to do with the lifetime of the
"Console.Read()". Is this right?

Hi --
I have a VB6 application that I plan on rewriting in C#.NET. The program
today basically connects to a SQL Server and parses varies system stats from
our mainframes and rolls the data up for up/downtime statistics, etc.
Since the current program today requires me to click various buttons and
tabs to load/review the information being parses and saved, I would like to
implement this applications as both a Windows Forms and Console...

I am running a console application that connects to an Access database (8
million rows) and converts it to a text file and then cleans and compacts
the database. When it runs I get the following error:
The CLR has been unable to transition from COM context 0x1a2008 to COM
context 0x1a2178 for 60 seconds. The thread that owns the destination
context/apartment is most likely either doing a non pumping wait or

Hi.
I'm trying to create a GUI for a console application I have (written by
someone else, but with permission to use it). The console application
gathers MIDI data from a port, and returns the data in the form of an
std::vector<unsigned char>.
What I need to do is get this console application to trigger different
buttons to light up on a GUI depending on the contents of the
std::vector<unsigned char(which is called "message"), but the...

When one uses the System.Diagnostics.Process.Start method to launch a common
or garden Console application, one can set the WindowStyle property of the
StartInfo object to ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden so that the window for the
Console application is not visible.
However, when using some of the 'advanced' properties of the StartInfo
object, like Username, Password and Domain, the WindowsStyle property of the
StartInfo object is ignored....

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
