How to detect that the application is being terminated

Hello,

I have a console application, which running rather sensitive code, which
needs to be finished/closed properly. The code is wrapped in a class, which
implements IDisposable. I need to make sure that no matter what, the Dispose
method gets executed ,e.g. if a user tried to kill the application for the
Task Manager.
As a matter of fact, I'm running it from the Task Scheduler, which can also
terminate the application upon user request. I know that the Task Scheduler
sends WM_CLOSE message to the application before it terminates it. I could
not find a way how to catch WM_CLOSE in the console application.
Thanx a lot,

Martin
I have a program for which I want to see from a distance if it has been
started.

I'm new to C# and threading, so hopefully this is a simple newbie question. I have a form that is supposed to listen for network traffic on a given port and decode and display any interesting traffic it sees. To do this I've launched a separate thread to do the listening. When I run my form it seems to work fine, but when I close the form the thread is not being terminated and Task Manager shows the application process still...

Hi, can I detect whether my class is running within the context of a Console application, vs say a WinForm's application ? also does anyone know whether the compiler or runtime is smart enough to avoid the overhead of writing to the console if it is not visible, eg I am running inside a WinForm application. thanks

There are quite a few words in this post but the questions are actually quite similar and should be fairly quick to answer ... (1) What is Happening with the Threads

Hello! I have some Vb.Net applications, which are terminated at indefinite times without message. If I call in the program regulated system.GC.Collect, then the program is terminated here sporadically without message. It's not possible to debug in visual studio, i get no exceptions (application is terminated unexpectedly without message).

I have an vb.net application that is a module that uses a "application.run" in the sub main to start. There is no form involved (just a system tray icon) How can you detect when the application is being closed? It is easy enough if the user selects "exit" from this tray icon but how can you detect if Windows is closing the program down? Normally I would simply do something in the Form.Closing event but without a form how can you...

Hi, I have a problem with Application.Run() when Windows is shutting down. Please have a look at the copy&paste example program below. The application has no forms. It has only got a notify icon in the system tray and it uses Application.Run() to keep the message loop running. When the user clicks the icon, the application should shut down and exit. So far that works fine.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
