Skinnable .NET Application

Ben
Hi,
I'm interested in making an application I'm about to start writing
skinnable, but I have absolutely no idea where to begin. If anyone has a
broad overview of how I would go about it or some links to resources that
might help it would be much appreciated. Are there any free libraries I
should look at too (I am a student developer, so paying isn't an option!)?

I might settle for simply having a custom interface rather than it actually
being skinnable, and I have some idea of how I could fudge it with image
controls, but I'd rather do it properly if there is indeed a 'proper' way.

Cheers,
Ben

I'm very near finishing a medium to large scale application, so I'm getting a head start on the GUI side of things. Part of the concept is to give as much attention to presentation as functionality, and something I really wanted to do was transcend the basic window and style it to an extent, To be honest, the wxPopupWindow was basically what I was looking for, but it isn't available on Mac, eliminating that possibility. wxShapedWindow...

I'm caching data in the Application object to speed up certain pages on a website The main reason is that the retrieval of this data takes quite a while (a few seconds) and fetching the same data from the "cache" hardly takes any time A basic pattern used to get the data from disk, or from cache is this data = getDataFromCache("mydata" if data = "" the data = getDataFromDisk( storeDataInCache(data, "mydata" end i

Hi I am developing a Dot net application (involving image processing) on a uni processor. It works well on my machine. I then take all my code on a multi processor, build and run the application there. There is performance degradation. The usual performance of the application on MP machine is better than that of uni processor machine. But the performance of MP degrades when it comes to the multi-threaded part of the application. I am...

How does one launch multiple forms in an application? Using Photoshop as an example, this application seems to be composed of many 'disjoint' forms. Yet, they all seem somewhat 'active' in contrast to one of them always being 'modal' (e.g., if you are moving over a picture the 'Info' form will update the (x,y) screen location in realtime even if not the selected form. Also note that this example implies the various forms can communicate...

Hi, I would like to understand the process of a skinable application. I mean i know that there are some pictures stored into a file and application use them. But what i would like to understand it's the solution itself like : - is it better to have each picture in a separated file, or several different images can be in 1 file (as winamp for example) ? - if several images are in 1 file, how to select the right one ? - when to apply...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
