Working on developing a smart client application and I am trying to get past
one nasty stumbling block. Hoping someone with previous smart client
deployment experience can steer me in the right direction. My problem is as
follows:
I need to better understand how to have my launcher or stub app load local
versions of a given assembly from the downloaded application cache of the
GAC when the remote web server is offline. I am using the...

Hi,
I am looking for help with the following challenge. We are writing a
Smart Client management application, which we want to appear to
customers as a Web client. Hence we want to embed it inside IE, but
are not sure technically how this may be done. Any ideas, pointers etc
will be appreciated.
BTW, on MSDN I only found general statements that this is possible,

there is no issue if using IE to load/install smart client App(winForm app).
if winform app calls any COM objects, after client download the app via IE,
always got error unless user has to manually run "regsvr32" to registt it.
Is there a way to overcome this?
Thanks
Jeff

I have been developing ASP.Net apps for over three years now. I've only
done a couple of forms apps in .Net back when I was first learning .Net.
(I've done lots of forms apps in Delphi before .Net) I recall reading at
that time that a major feature of .Net was that we would be able to write
"Smart Client" applications that would be Forms apps that would be small and
xcopy down to the client machine and execute while communicating to the...

Hi,
What's in general the most performant for a VB.NET Windows Forms (2.0)
application:
- a fat client (everything one the client, the server hosts only the
database)
- a smart client (an application on the client, that communicates with an
application on the server via Webservices/Remoting/..)
I would somehow think a smart client, but would just like to have the

We are building a smart client application (.NET 2.0) which uses Web Services
to access the business objects.
Services: The Web Services have been secured by brokered authentication
using X509 certificate along with message level security. (Right now the web
services are consumed only by the smart client application in intranet
environment. However, few services would be exposed as enterprise services in
future. Such services can be...

I am working on a big business application (dot-NET 1.1+legacy stuff), which
is deployed in "SmartClient/no-touch-deployment" model. For some time on we
have a problem that nobody was able to resolve so far, although a number of
good developers have been looking at it.
Some of our users are getting an error that "resource" or "assembly" could
not be found (both exceptions are popping up - sometimes one sometimes the
other). The stack...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.

Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
