I have some CGI programs that spit out error pages when the user enters illegal form input. These custom error pages, while informing the user of errors, are otherwise just standard web pages. Is there a disadvantage to not spitting out a 404 error? I assume 404 isn't just another webpage, but carries with it the information that an error occured---in so simple a manner that it could be used for e.g. link checking. TIA,

I have an application where users need to upload images and in my web.config file I have a setting like this: <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="512" /> Which restricts image larger than 500k from being uploaded. I'm also using the HtmlInputFile control to do the uploading. My problem is that when the user's file size exceeds 512k, the page immediately redirects to the "The page cannot be displayed" error page which is very confusing. ...

Hi, I originally posted this as a reply to a rather old thread in dotnet.framework.general and didn't get any response. I thought it might be more relevant here; anyone got any ideas? My questions are below... Hi All, I have a Web Service written in Java (Web Logic) and I am trying to call it in my ASP. NET client. I am facing a problem while getting the data from the Web Service Method. My Web Service returns me an object which is a wrapper around an array of objects. (Earlier I was trying to read the array directly but could not succeed - so I wrapped that array with another object.) Now the primary issue is regarding the chunky characters...

I am getting an error on a page that uses asp to query a db then opens the page on the client in excel. The error is only occuring on XP boxes only. If I comment out the cache killers it opens fine but I want to make sure a user gets the most up to date data so I need some cache control in there. What can I do to fix this? Thanks Mike

I am writing an application (using Visual Studio 2003) that consumes a third party Web Service, but I receive the following error : Client found response content type of 'application/xml; charset=utf-8', but expected 'text/xml'. I can see the XML Document and it is properly structured. Is there any way to overide this and get .NET to process the response XML regardless of the Content Type Setting in the HTTP Response ?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
