Extending a Forms control (Panel) and NOT breaking the forms designerin 2K5 beta 1...

This question is for .NET 2005 beta 1 (we can't move to beta 2 yet at my
workplace).

This is probably a true newbie question or a beta bug, but I'm a bit
lost on this... I want to extend the System::Windows ::Forms::Panel class
and add some custom functionality. I can easily create a new custom
control project, change it to derive from Panel, and add the code to a
Windows Forms app by hand to add an instance of my derived class, and it
works great. But, once I do that the forms designer breaks. If I add
the derived control's DLL to the toolbox, the designer immediately
breaks. Change that code back to a normal Panel, and everything works
again. What am I doing wrong?

Just a general question... When working with a form containing a treeview or similar control... if you need to show different form fields depending on what is selected in the treeview then what is the best way to deal with these form controls...? Like, when they are all visible in the designer it can be absolute chaos... So how do you guys deal with it? Is there a blank container control (can't see one) that allows you to drop a...

I have the following situation: Need a user resizable user control. After much trying with user control I came across the idea of hosting the controls in a form marked as not TopLevel = false. This work fine for most cases, allowing the user to resize the form (and controls within the form. The forms them selves are create dynamically when the user drags a node from a listview to a panel (contained in a Usercontrol which is hosted by...

Hello everyone, I'm wondering if I could get some advice on the best way to build the user interface depicted in this diagram: http://www.senske.com/images/winforms_layout.jpg The gray areas will be static throughout. However, I'd like the blue area to change to a different interface depending on which of the buttons at left is pressed. Should I design the interface for each of the buttons as a separate custom user control, then...

Hi, I'm using VS2005 and .net 2.0. I'm creating an application that has 3 forms. I want allow users to move forward and backward with the forms and retain the data users have entered. I thought I'll make the inactive forms invisible but this is creating a memory corruption problem when user close the form2 or form3 and not the formMain. My main form has a Next button which makes the main form invisible and starts a new form which I'll...

I know that Panel (and most of it's derivitives) don't raise keyboard events. I *really* need to catch keyboard events though so I've been googling the topic and have found quite a few suggestions. The one suggestion I've found that makes the most sense isn't working for me and after this most recent failure I'm really at a loss! ;0) I'm overriding WndProc and checking the Message.Msg property for the WM_KEYUP message. If anyone has...

In my application I have a form (Customer) that I want to be able to open multiple copies at once. Within this form I have other forms that can be opened. Example: ZipCode. When the user enters a zipcode that is unknown this form will open. I don't want users to modify any of this customers data until they close the zipcode form. Normally this can accomplished using a modal form, however this prevents me from opening a new copy of...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
