some property pages cause assert fail on diff machine

I've got a small VC++ program I'm working on that uses 5 property pages. On
my development machine everything works fine. On a laptop that I sometimes
use for development, clicking on 2 of the tabs (property pages) will cause
an assertion failure in COccManager::Cr eateDlgControls (...). The other 3
tabs are fine.

The assert that fails is ASSERT(ppOleDlg Items != NULL)

Both machines are loaded with Vis Studio 2003. Compiling on the "good"
machine (Win2k) and running that exe on the laptop (XP) still fails the same
way.

Some things I've unsuccessfully tried are:
remove all controls from the page but one static text
remove all control from a page - fails in a different way.

When the program crashes I typically get a popup "TODO: <File Description>
has encountered a problem and needs to close."
Closing that gives the assertion failed popup.
Clicking abort gives a popup "memory could not be "read"" (my personal
favorite).
Clicking OK then gives me 2 or 4 more of the first "TODO: <File..." popups,
depending on which of the two bad property pages I selected in the first
place.

None of these property pages has anything exotic, just edit controls, static
text, and some group boxes.

Any hints on what I should try?

hello again. i'm now into using python instead of another language(s) for describing structures of data, including names, structure, type-checks, conversions, value-validations, metadata etc. And i have things to offer, and to request. And a lot of ideas, but who needs them.... here's an example (from type_struct.py):

When to return a const, from either a member function of a class or non-member? Is assert() only executed in debug mode but skipped in release mode? I don't see much usage of "assert()." Am I missing its importance? Thanks for your comments!

I was just thinking about this, specifically wondering if there's any features that the C specification currently lacks, and which may be included in some future standardization. Of course, I speak only of features in the spirit of C; something like object-orientation, though a nice feature, does not belong in C. Something like being able to #define a #define would be very handy, though, e.g: #define DECLARE_FOO(bar) #define...

I'm having problems with inconsistent floating point behavior resulting in e.g. assert( x > 0.0 && putchar('\n') && x == 0.0 ); holding. (Actually, my problem is the dual one where I get failed assertions for assertions that at first thought ought to hold, but that's not important.) At the end is a full program containing the above seemingly

In C89, do we have to pass an int as an argument to assert? I've got code at the moment that does an assertion on pointer, e.g.: assert(p); , but I'm wondering if I should change that to: assert(0 != p);

Is there a way to pass a property around as a parameter without reflection? My current motivation for this is the code below is testing multiple properties to see that an exception is thrown if a user tries to set the string value to an empty value. Ideally I'd like to have one method that would take a Property as a parameter and test it: public void CompanyName_Error_CannotSetToEmpty() { var customer = new Customer { ID = "TEST" };

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
