Casting Object to Float error

Hi. What am I doing wrong:

foreach (DataRow dr1 in MyTable1.Rows)
{

reg[count] = (float)dr1["REG"];
prem[count] = (float)dr1["PREM"];
die[count] = (float)dr1["DIESEL"];
eth[count] = (float)dr1["ETH"];
term[count] = reg[count]+prem[count]+die[count]+eth[count];
count++;
}

Uh oh. Specified cast is not valid. Do I have to box? I'm trying to cast an
object (pulled by SQL) to a float. I know, ref to val breach of etiquette.

Thanks!

I'm having a problem understanding why the code in this little program I've got is behaving the way it does... if anyone can explain it, I'd be grateful: #include <iostream> using namespace std; //This function takes an unsigned char (one byte on my machine) //and prints it in binary notation

I'm getting tired of the following error message. Compiler Error message : Error: Need explicit cast to convert from: float to: float * I am trying to use a routine from the Numerical Recipes library called amebsa.c. The routine requires several parameters of the following form. *iter, **p, *yb.... . How does one initialize these variables? If I declare them as pointer (in this case, *yb and *iter) the compiler still tells me that it...

Hi, I have a problem to implemente the strategy pattern. the problem come from that a method take different arguments type (object in interface and String / Int in implemented class). When price3 instance call getPrice, the method invoked is the one of PriceRule abstract class. But, I want to invoke the method of PriceruleForRegion. So I think the solution is somewhere on casting to original type (PriceRuleForRegion) but I don't how I...

Hi all, I just discovered a rounding error that occurs in C#. I'm sure this is an old issue, but it is new to me and resulted in a fair amount of time trying to track down the issue. Basically put the following code into your C# app: float testFloat2 = (int) (4.2f * (float)100); Console.Out.WriteLine("1: "+testFloat2); and the result will be 419

Hello all, First of all, sorry for multiple question per one thread. I have two questions. First what I think might be the easier problem. I am capturing data from an embedded device which I need to display data. One particular piece of data is a 32 bit floating point value. The problem I am having is converting the 4-byte value which is read via an RS-232 link. How can I cast the 4-byte value to a value type float correctly? I have...

Dear Experts, I need a function that takes a float, swaps its endianness (htonl) in place, and returns a char* pointer to its first byte. This is one of a family of functions that prepare different data types for passing to another process. I have got confused by the rules about what won't work, what will work, and what might work, when casting. Specifically, I have an implementation that works until I remove my debugging, at which...

Hi , I was going through peter van der linden's book Expert C programming, in this book there is a section named "How and why to cast" the author then says as follows (float) 3 - it's a type conversion and the actual bits change. if you say (float) 3.0 it is a type disambiguation,and the compiler can plant the correct bits in the first place.some people say that

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
